The world’s mega sporting event, the FIFA World Cup, will take place across North America in 2026. The matches will be held in 16 cities across the USA, Mexico, and Canada. This will be the first World Cup in football history hosted by three countries. In 2002, the competition was played in Japan and South Korea, and this will be the 2nd time in history that many countries have shared the hosting duties. Another big change in the 2026 schedule is that 48 teams will participate instead of 32.
All 48 teams will be divided into 12 groups; each group includes four teams. The teams will play for a total of 104 matches across the USA, Mexico, and Canada. The top two best teams and the 8th third-place team will get the chance to play in the knockout stage. Check out the list of teams and groups below:
Group A: Mexico, Czechia, South Korea and South Africa
Group B: Canada, Qatar, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Group C: Morocco, Brazil, Scotland, Haiti
Group D: United States, Paraguay, Australia,
Group E: Germany, Turkey, Curaçao, Ecuador, Ivory Coast

The majority of the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches will take place in the USA with 11 host cities: Miami, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Houston, Seattle, Philadelphia, Boston, Dallas, Kansas City, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York metropolitan area. In Mexico, matches will be held in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey, while Canada will host matches in Vancouver and Toronto.
Three World Cups have previously been held in North America: the United States in 1994 and Mexico in 1970 and 1986. The men's World Cup will be staged in Canada for the first time in 2026.
